    Lake Park’s boys track and field team wasted no time staking its claim to DuPage Valley Conference honors. In its first league meet since joining the DVC, in Friday’s Indoor DVC meet the four-time defending Class 3A champion used points from both the track and field to score 145 points, ahead of Wheaton Warrenville South’s 86, at North Central College’s bright and airy Al B. Carius Track in Naperville.

    Tommy Stobart, a senior at Waubonsie Valley, has had a season filled with highlight-reel goals. But it was a goal he was errantly credited with on Thursday night at the United Center that he always will remember. Stobart said it was, in reality, senior Michael O’Hara (Waubonsie Valley) who scored for the co-op Waubsonie Warriors with 7.3 seconds remaining in the first period. O’Hara’s momentum-swinging, game-winning goal helped Waubonsie defeat Glenbard 3-0 for the state championship in the Combined Division. This was Waubonsie’s first hockey state championship, and the team finished the season 42-11-2. Glenbard ends its season 32-19-4.

    Collapsing on Benet center Sean O'Mara like hounds on a grizzly, Glenbard North was forcing the Redwings to beat them from the perimeter. It was a perimeter shot from senior guard Collin Pellettieri plus clutch late defense that earned Benet a 62-59 victory for the Redwings' first downstate berth since 1983.
