  • Glenbard East finishes the job at Berman Classic Dec 28, 2013 12:00 AM
A semifinal swoon from last season was clearly on the mind of Glenbard East coach Kevin Carlson minutes before the semifinal round of the 59th Berman Holiday Wrestling Classic officially opened. The story had a different ending this time, one the Rams could enjoy Saturday at Palatine High School. That’s 9.5 more than Class 2A power Oak Forest and 13 points better than defending champ Hinsdale Central (100). Lincoln-Way West (90) and East (85) rounded out the top five; action resumes at 9:30 a.m. Saturday.

Geneva gets big score to edge Wheaton Warrenville co-op Dec 21, 2013 12:00 AM
The Illinois Best is the one and only yearly invitational that forces a team to use one all-arounder and four single-event specialists. It’s a difficult test for all competitors because teams count all eight scores and any struggles contribute to the final score. Geneva’s afternoon wasn’t about struggles but all about successes as the Vikings defended their title from last year while putting together one of the finest meets in Illinois Best history. The Vikings needed it, narrowly edging runner-up Wheaton Warrenville co-op, 72.425 to 71.375.
