The teen girls from Glen Ellyn just wanted to have fun, even if it meant their boat capsized in the lake before they even finished the race. “It started to fill with water, so we just jumped,” Mugnani, 14, explained.

    A final version of an Ackerman Park master improvement plan with a potential price tag of nearly $5.3 million will be presented Tuesday to the Glen Ellyn Park District board. The proposed plan would include reconfigured softball fields, additional trails and parking, improved soccer and softball fields and lighting, and additional amenities such as bathrooms, shelters and signs.

Isaac Sports Group, a consulting firm based in Ann Arbor, Mich., is in town this week to launch a pool feasibility study funded by Glen Ellyn Aquatics Initiative, a grass-roots community group.

    Glen Ellyn's venerable Lake Ellyn boathouse and the surrounding park need a makeover. But the focus is to get rid of the more recent improvements and restore the historical features. "We're basically bringing this building back so this can be a place where children and adults can come, so they can understand what Lake Ellyn was like in the 1930s," said an architect working on a plan for the property.

    The late 1930s came alive in the Lake Ellyn Boathouse in Glen Ellyn Sunday as the Glen Ellyn Park District marked the building's 75th anniversary with an open house that featured old photos, newspaper clippings, even a live performance of a Dick Tracy radio program.
