Big finishes for Hoffman’s Wille, Palatine’s Conrad Feb 9, 2013 12:00 AM
Sarah Wille of Hoffman Estates and Katie Conrad of Palatine didn’t let the frenetic atmosphere of Cherry Bowl Lanes bother them in the least. As a matter of fact, the junior bowlers thrived in it. In the jam-packed setting of the Rockford alley — one that a fan rightly called “organized chaos” — Conrad and Wille showed their mettle by placing in the top 20 at Saturday’s state tournament.

Confident Conant in just the right ‘state’ of mindFeb 2, 2013 12:00 AM
Conant coach Jennifer Mikrut knew it was going to be a good day for the Cougars after only two games were in the books at Saturday’s Fremd girls bowling sectional.“We were in first place at that time,” said Mikrut, “and it really gave the girls a lot of confidence. It was an outstanding kickoff to the day and they were excited. At that point, I think they knew what they could do.”What the Cougars did was erase the memory of last year’s sectional tournament – when Conant missed out on a state berth by just eight pins – to win Saturday at Arlington Lanes and move on to next weekend’s state tourney at Cherry Bowl Lanes in Rockford.Conant’s total six-game score of 5838 bested second-place Prospect by just 73 pins, but the Knights weren’t disappointed as they also qualified for a trip to Cherry Bowl with their runner-up placement.
