This year’s Wildcats squad, however, doesn’t even get fazed by a 10-point deficit in the fourth quarter, as evidenced by Thursday night’s exciting rally that ended in a 78-74 defeat of visiting East Aurora in Upstate Eight Conference Valley Division play.

They made that abundantly clear in sprinting to a 21-14 lead after one quarter, but the Mustangs eventually wore their hosts down on the way to a 52-28 Upstate Eight Conference Valley Division victory.

    As the clock stopped at 58.7 seconds with the score tied at 22 for an Elgin timeout in the fourth quarter, commotion on the East Aurora sideline began to occur. Practice snaps from the center and the holder as well as in the distance, East Aurora’s Richard Barajas began to take practice kicks into the net. At this point, spectators hadn’t seen one field goal attempt in the game as Elgin and East Aurora continued to send out their offenses to convert on 2-point conversions. Barajas, who hasn’t kicked a field goal in a regular season game, would connect on a 19-yard field goal for the Upstate Eight crossover win at 25-22 Friday night at Memorial Field, ending the Tomcats’ losing streak at 44.

    The nearly 10 weeks since Pat Pistorio was hired as the second head football coach in South Elgin’s brief history have been filled with long days for his players, his staff and the coach himself. All of which made Saturday’s 48-20 victory over visiting East Aurora a rewarding experience for everyone clad in silver and red, particularly after 3 losses to open the season. “They really needed that,” Pistorio said of his players and coaches, “It was something that was well deserved. There’s been lots of hard work, lots of 6 a.m. practices. We really push these kids whether it’s study table or lifting after practice. We’re here until 7:30, 8 o’clock every night with these kids. They’re buying in. I’m very happy to see some success finally.”

    A former East Aurora High School teacher received 18 months probation after pleading guilty Wednesday to sending inappropriate photos of herself to a 15-year-old student in May 2011, according to court records. Kelly K. Miller, of West Dundee, also must pay $2,350 in fines, complete a sex offender evaluation and have no unsupervised contact with minors while on probation.
