    A day after winning the Kane County Sheriff's seat by 30,000 votes, Donald Kramer says he won't do anything drastic in the first 30 days in office. Kramer, a Republican, also is considering a survey among residents to see how the department is doing.

     
  • Tight Will County sheriff’s race won’t be decided for days Nov 5, 2014 6:48 PM
    The two candidates locked in a tight race for Will County sheriff say they don’t expect to know who won Tuesday’s election until Nov. 18. With all 310 precincts reporting, unofficial results show Republican Ken Kaupas leading Democrat Mike Kelly by just 170 votes — 94,085 to 93,915. With such a razor-thin margin, both men say they’ll have to wait until all the votes have been counted, including absentee, grace period and provisional ballots. That count is not expected to be completed until later this month.

    Republican Bill Prim has won the race for McHenry County sheriff by a wide margin. Prim, 55, of Cary, had 41,320 votes, or about 60 percent of total votes, compared to Independent Jim Harrison, 56, of Johnsburg, who had 27,028 votes, with 209 of 212 precincts reporting. The unofficial tally does not include early votes, as well as provisional and late absentee ballots.

    Republican Lake County Sheriff Mark Curran withstood a tough campaign from Democratic challenger Jason Patt to secure four more years in his job. With all 415 precincts counted late Tuesday, Curran took home 114,268 votes, unofficial totals show. Patt received 75,651 tallies.

    The DuPage County Forest Preserve Commission’s lone Democrat lasted only two years in office before being ousted Tuesday night. Unofficial vote totals show District 6 Commissioner Shannon Burns, a West Chicago Democrat, being unseated by local business owner Al Murphy, also of West Chicago, in a rematch from 2012.

    Incumbent John Jung and fellow Republican challenger Michael Rein secured two seats on the McHenry County Board for District 5, according to unofficial results. With all precincts reporting, unofficial vote totals show Jung garnered 5,617 votes, Rein received 4,955 votes, and incumbent Democrat Paula Yensen lost her seat with 4,308 votes.

With 35 of 41 precincts reporting Tuesday, unofficial vote totals show Gottemoller in the lead with 5,852 votes, followed by Kopsell with 4,515 votes and Schmidt trailing close behind with 3,995 votes.

    Incumbent Republican John Hammerand and Republican newcomer Charles Wheeler secured two open seats on the McHenry County Board for District 4, unofficial results show. With all precincts reporting, unofficial vote totals show Hammerand lead with 7,334 votes, followed by Wheeler with 5,849 votes and Democrat Arne Waltmire trailing with 4,541 votes.

    DuPage County Sheriff John Zaruba easily defeated Democratic challenger Mike Quiroz Tuesday to win his fifth term. With all 756 precincts reporting, Zaruba, a Republican, received roughly 62 percent of the vote.
