Rowling confirmed she wrote a crime novel called “The Cuckoo's Calling” under a pseudonym, suburban libraries have been unable to meet the demand for the book. “The holds jumped after this news came out,” said Nicole Wilhelms, adult and teen services manager at the Downers Grove Public Library. “We went from no holds to over 20 holds within the first couple of days.”

    This year marks the 80th anniversary of the Lone Ranger, a fictional character that has had a lasting influence on American culture. College of Lake County sociology professors John and Maria Jose Tenuto will explore the Longer Ranger phenomenon from its radio origins to this summer’s blockbuster movie. The event, to be held 7 p.m. Tuesday, June 25, at Cook Park Library, 413 N. Milwaukee Ave., Libertyville, is free and open to the public. Registration is required.
