Just to make things more tense for our contestants I am sharing the judge’s comments and the Fan Favorites. Most weeks the Fan Favorite voting mirrored the judges choices. Will that be the case again?

Daily Herald Cook of the Week Challenge: Tickets to final cook-off on sale now Oct 10, 2012 12:00 AM
The Cook of the Week Challenge wraps up in grand fashion on Nov. 1 with our four finalists facing each other in a cook-off in front of an audience of 300 or so people at the Hyatt Regency Woodfield Schaumburg. The cooks will have one hour to prep and cook the ingredients in the mystery box and present their plated dish o a panel of judges. Want to be there? Tickets are on sale now.

Contestant Terri Edmunds said as she thought about this week's tailgate party theme, she decided her recipes had to be fairly easy in preparation and cooking without sacrificing balanced flavors and bold tastes. Ron Nunes says that the secret to tailgating is to accomplish as much prep work as you can at home so that when you are in a remote environment, all you have to do is fire up the grill and have fun.

For the Chianti challenge, Michael Pennisi decided to use the wine as a marinade or sauce. He also decided to keep the cheese separate from the meat because he didn't think the flavor of American cheese complements either the wine or a quality cut of meat. Mary Beth Thornton found the hardest part of this week's challenge's was to make sure the two proteins matched together on a plate.

For the Round 1, Week 4 challenges we had ingredient help from College of DuPage in Glen Ellyn, Fortune Fish Co. in Bensenville and Suparossa Pizza, a client of Porte Brown certified public accountants. Each organization contributed a guest to sit on the judging panel with chefs Suzy Singh and Spencer Wolff and Jean-Louis Clerc.
