Without paid sick leave, workers have a choice to make: go to work sick, or stay home and forgo pay. That's a problem not just for those workers, but also for their fellow workers and commuters whom they expose to their illness. While employers might balk at the costs of offering paid sick leave, research suggests paid sick days might effectively pay for themselves by reducing overall rates of absenteeism.
