    Christian Liberty boys basketball bowed out of the Class 1A postseason on Thursday, losing to Ida Crown 59-48 at Grace Gym in Arlington Heights in a regional semifinal matchup. But the Chargers didn’t go down without a fight.

Daniels is finally getting his start at leading a high school program at a time when a lot of head coaches are crossing or nearing the finish line. His drive to succeed is going to be crucial, since Daniels is taking over a Christian Liberty program that is still in relative infancy.

    Two things had to go right for Christian Liberty on Tuesday night in Grace Gymnasium. First, the Chargers had to devise away to stop one of the state’s leading scorers, Randy Hewitt. And second, Christian Liberty needed to get off to a quick start. Missions accomplished. The Chargers broke out to a 13-8 lead after one quarter and 34-16 at halftime to put away the No. 6-seeded Griffins 67-41. The Class 1A regional win puts the No. 3 Chargers against the No. 2-seeded Ida Crown Aces from Chicago in a Thursday matchup.

  • Elk Grove wins; Wheeling’s Stephani breaks 1,500 career points Feb 22, 2014 1:08 AM
    On senior night at Wheeling, Jeremy Stephani showed he belongs among the best boys basketball players in school history. Elk Grove won the Mid-Suburban East finale, getting 12 points apiece from Tyler Ingebrigtsen and Bryan Alcazar in a 69-53 decision. Stephani led all scorers with 21 points, including a pair of 3’s. That pushed him past the 1,500-point threshold in career scoring, as he now has 1,516 and will end up as the leading scorer in the program’s history.

  • Prospect powers past Highland Park Feb 19, 2014 12:14 AM
    Prospect’s defense opened the postseason with the same stinginess it showed during the regular season as the Knights posted a 43-25 victory over Highland Park in the semifinals of the Class 4A Buffalo Grove regional. Junior Taylor Will scored a game-high 19 points and classmate Catherine Sherwood added 13 as No. 3-seeded Prospect (23-5) moved on to Thursday’s championship game against No. 11 Buffalo Grove (14-15) at 7 p.m.

  • Nonconference wins for Elk Grove, Schaumburg Feb 19, 2014 12:04 AM
    Elk Grove 78, Streamwood 66: Scott Furlong scored a game-high 22 points and Tyler Ingebrigtsen was right behind with 21 as the host Grens earned a nonconference victory. The difference was the second quarter, when Elk Grove held the Sabres to 9 points. Schaumburg 51, Waukegan 48: The Saxons got a team-best 15 points from junior forward Brendan Parker in earning a nonconference victory over the Bulldogs. Northridge Prep 63, Christian Liberty 45: Steve Leazer scored a game-high 22 points to help Northridge Prep past the Chargers in nonconference play. Wes Swiderek led Christian Liberty with 18 points, including five 3’s, and Matt Brown contributed 11 for Northridge Prep (17-7). Warren 44, Prospect 39: Bobby Frasco (16 points, 4 rebounds, 2 assists) and Ernest Kiseliovas (7 points) led visiting Prospect in the nonconference game in Gurnee.

    To say Megan Sullivan has had a banner sports career at Christian Liberty Academy could not be any more fitting. The Chargers senior guard became the first girl in school history to help hang a regional banner in Grace Gymnasium in three different sports. Sullivan’s 20 points, 10 steals and 6 assists helped the CLA get its first regional title in girls basketball with a 56-21 victory over Chicagoland Jewish in the Chargers’ own Class 1A regional.

    Megan Sullivan started Wednesday’s game by making a steal and an assist. After that, she showed she could score points, too. The Christian Liberty senior guard tossed in a team-high 17 points to help lead the top-seeded Chargers to a 58-32 triumph over No. 5 Chicago Waldorf in the Christian Liberty Class 1A semifinal in Arlington Heights.

    A banner hangs in the Westminster Christian girls basketball team’s locker room stating goals for the season. One was to become the school’s first girls sports team to win back-to-back undefeated Northeastern Athletic Conference titles. The Warriors accomplished that with authority on Thursday night in Arlington Heights where they rolled to a 67-35 victory over host Christian Liberty Academy.

    Already short-handed on the bench,Maine West has also lost leading scorer Joel Ferraren to knee tendinitis for the time being. For the Warriors, it was ‘next man up’ against visiting Fenton in nonconference play Tuesday in Des Plaines. Junior Matt Acevedo helped ignite a first-quarter run that gave Maine West a 21-12 lead, and the Warriors went on to beat the winless Bison 70-34. Rag Patel started in place of Ferraren and did a commendable job, scoring 12 points. Jamal Sherman added 10 points and Josh Redd had 9.

    Hersey 50, Buffalo Grove 43: Payton Haas had a team-best 14 points and Brandon Hatten scored 10 to help the host Huskies past Buffalo Grove in Mid-Suburban East play. Brandon Hatten contributed 10 points for Hersey (5-9). Senior guard Andrew Apel led the way with game-high 18 points for Buffalo Grove (5-9). Luther North 57, Christian Liberty 55: The host Chargers outscored their opponents 22-14 in the fourth quarter but still came up a bucket short in Northeastern Athletic Conference play. Sam Silva had a pair of 3’s and finished with a game-high 16 points, and Wes Swiderek had 12 points for Christian Liberty.

    Buffalo Grove declared itself prepared for today’s game against state-ranked Stevenson with its 63-26 homecourt win Friday over Christian Liberty Academy. Are the Bison (2-1) truly ready and able? They’ll find out at 7:30 p.m. Saturday when they tangle with Jalen Brunson, Conner Cashaw and Co. for the Bison Classic championship. In the meantime, they got their shooting touch and confidence back in steadily pulling away from the game but outmanned Chargers (0-3).

    The Christian Liberty Academy co-op girls volleyball season came to an end on Tuesday night in the Class 2A South Beloit sectional. Oregon, which has won nine regional in the past 11 years, defeated the Chargers 25-14, 25-13 to advance to Thursday’s championship match. The Lady Hawks will play IC Catholic Prep, which defeated Dakota 25-18, 17-25, 26-24.

    Christian Liberty Academy’s co-op girls volleyball team travels to the South Beloit sectional Tuesday night hoping to extend its season in the Class 2A state tournament. After winning Class 1A regional titles in 2010 and 2011, the Chargers won their first 2A crown last week. They defeated Woodlands Academy 24-26, 25-20, 25-15 in the championship of the Willows Academy regional in Des Plaines. CLA (24-11) will play in its first 2A sectional semifinal against Oregon at 6 p.m.

With Vivian Barclay and Cassie Swiderek leading the attack and getting their cues from setter Jenna Pavlik, the Chargers defeated Woodlands Academy 24-26, 25-20, 25-15 for the championship of the Willows Academy regional in Des Plaines.
