All around the Fox Valley, 9/11 remembered Sep 11, 2011 12:00 AM
Communities across the Fox Valley stopped Sunday to remember the events of Sept. 11, 2001. In Elgin, the ceremony marked the latest in annual tributes that have been conducted since 2001. “We never want a year to go by that we don't remember,” said Tricia Dieringer, American Legion Post 57 Americanism chairman, who has coordinated the ceremonies every year for the last decade.

Help free Carpentersville fire chief from 'jail' Sep 1, 2011 12:00 AM
Carpentersville Fire Chief John Schuldt is going to jail. But it won’t be your typical jail; this one’s at Nick’s Pizzeria and Pub in Elgin. Schuldt will have an hour to raise money at the restaurant on Sept. 28 for the Muscular Dystrophy Association. He hopes to send affected kids to camp in 2012.

Carpentersville seeks former firefighters to attend 9/11 ceremony Aug 16, 2011 12:00 AM
Authorities at the Carpentersville Fire Department are looking for past firefighters to attend the dedication service of the department’s 9/11 memorial. The department will hold its ceremony at 10 a.m. Sept. 11 at 213 Spring St. An open house follows at the fire station. The memorial is dedicated to firefighters who served Carpentersville throughout the 96 years of the department’s existence and to the people who lost their lives during the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks.

It was a clear case of neighbors helping neighbors. At Tuesday’s board meeting, the Carpentersville village board and Fire Chief John Schuldt honored four regular men for putting out a vehicle fire as it spread to a nearby house.

Jerry Cole is a nice guy who genuinely likes helping people. Some who know him say he's too nice, but he shakes his head. They don't get it. Cole grew up with loving parents who taught him to help others. The lesson stuck and at 52, his entire life is dedicated to service.
