    Hoffman Estates softball pitcher Tracy Osimowicz got her fourth win of the season and went 4-for-4 at the plate with 4 singles as the Hawks topped visiting Prospect 5-1. Sophomore Angela Roman’s home run in the first inning gave the Knights a 1-0 lead but Hoffman scored 4 runs with two outs in the bottom of the fourth to take command.

    Fremd managed to scored 3 runs without a hit to claim a 3-2 victory over visiting Conant on Tuesday in Mid-Suburban West baseball action.

    Wheeling senior Katie Quagliano hit and pitch her team to victory on Monday at Heritage Park in Wheeling. Quagliano belted a two-out, bases-loaded double in the bottom of the fifth inning to give the Wildcats a 3-2 lead over visiting Prospect. Nikki Mikosz, Christina Ambrose (2-for-3) and Alexa Fishman scored on Quagliano’s big hit. Anne Janulis’s RBI groundout in the sixth got home Lauren Hart (triple) for Wheeling’s final run in the 4-2 triumph.

    Morgan Radtke and Carolyn Soukup combined with a stout Palatine defense to help the Pirates sink host Fremd to win the annual crosstown soccer match between rival girls soccer programs 2-0 on Monday. The Pirates’ win means Palatine has won the coveted Kinsella Cup for the second time in the last three seasons.

    Pat Donohue changed Prospect’s fortunes with just one swing of his bat Monday in Mt. Prospect. Donohue, who bats first, lined the first pitch of Prospect’s first inning at-bat into center for a single. That spark got the Knights, who had been struggling offensively in their last two games, off to a great start as Prospect rolled past Buffalo Grove 11-0 in 5 innings.

    In one of the most dramatic matches of the season, Buffalo Grove’s girls soccer team won a test of endurance, will and strength on Saturday afternoon. The Bison fired back from a 3-1 deficit to beat Lyons Township 4-3 and to advance into the PepsiCo Showdown final next Sunday at Toyota Park, where Buffalo Grove will defend its championship.

    Northwest Suburban High School District 214 may drop out of the National School Lunch Program next year due to what officials called restrictive changes in the law. “I’m sure everyone looking at this had the best of intentions,” said board President Bill Dussling, “but it falls off the edge when nobody’s going to eat it.”

    Max Andryushchenko was a latecomer to Prospect’s gymnastics team. But that may be the last time that Andryushchenko will be last all year. Competing in just his third meet of the year at the 11th annual Ed Raymond Invitational at Conant in Hoffman Estates on Thursday, Andryushchenko, was spectacular, scoring a 56.10.

    Prospect’s softball team started out its Mid-Suburban League schedule on Wednesday in Mt. Prospect with a 2-0 shutout over defending conference champion Barrington. Sophomore Delilah Malczewski (3-0) threw a 2-hitter with 4 strikeouts and no walks. She faced 23 batters and got 10 on ground outs.

    Kelli Zickert can turn a soccer game around, but she’s not the only threat on Buffalo Grove’s team. Zickert stepped her game up and got help from her teammates during a 4-goal outburst in the second half Tuesday night. Their efforts allowed the top-seeded Bison to beat unseeded Warren 5-1 in the Round of 16 in the PepsiCo tournament in Buffalo Grove.

    More than 100 students from Northwest Suburban High School District 214 shopped for their prom dresses and accessories for free this week thanks to donations from the community. On Monday and Tuesday, girls from Rolling Meadows, Elk Grove, Wheeling and Buffalo Grove high schools are choosing from a selection of more than 400 donated prom dresses of all colors and sizes.

    Buffalo Grove underlined its status as the top girls soccer team in the Mid-Suburban League this season — to date, anyway — after defeating host Barrington 3-2 Monday evening in the snow and cold. The Bison (10-0-0, 4-0-0) join the Fillies (5-1-2, 4-1-0) atop the MSL standings with 12 points after sending the Fillies to their first loss of the season.
