  • Bolingbrook drops Neuqua Feb 22, 2012 12:25 AM
For one brief Megan Doody shining moment, her 3-pointer put Neuqua Valley ahead of Bolingbrook Tuesday. Then the Raiders delivered a cold dose of reality. Three-time defending state champion Bolingbrook did to Neuqua what it has done to every other Illinois team this year, overwhelming the Wildcats 76-37 at the Class 4A Neuqua Valley sectional. Bolingbrook (25-1), 18-0 against in-state opponents this year, is beating them by an average margin of victory of 50 points. It’s easy to see why, with a lineup filled by eight Division I-bound seniors, led by McDonald’s All-American Morgan Tuck.

When the game was on the line, Bolingbrook made sure the ball was in Aaron Bailey’s hands, and the 6-foot-2 junior quarterback didn’t disappoint. Bailey’s 60-yard scoring run and 2-point conversion plunge with 8:08 remaining provided the winning margin for Bolingbrook in its 22-19 win against Naperville Central in a Class 8A semifinal contest Saturday afternoon at Memorial Stadium in Naperville.

  • Neuqua Valley falls at Bolingbrook Oct 29, 2011 1:08 AM
Usually a team that throws for zero yards is on the losing side of the final score, but most teams don’t have a quarterback with wheels like Bolingbrook’s Aaron Bailey. The junior signalcaller ran for 300 yards and 4 touchdowns yet attempted only two passes as Bolingbrook pulled away in the second half en route to a 33-14 opening-round Class 8A victory over Neuqua Valley on Friday night in Bolingbrook.

In all, more than 2,000 students will be competing, as they showcase the best dance, flag and poms routines from throughout the state.

  • Neuqua Valley knocks off Bolingbrook Mar 3, 2011 12:09 AM
Two big 3-pointers made the difference in Neuqua Valley advancing to the regional final. Sam Johnson and Jabari Sandifer knocked down a pair of crucial fourth quarter 3-point baskets that made the difference in the Wildcats’ 52-43 win over Bolingbrook in the semifinal round of the Class 4A Bolingbrook regional Wednesday night. Neuqua Valley (22-7) advances to Friday’s regional final where it will face East Aurora at 7:30 p.m. “We didn’t think Jabari was going to shoot, but he came off of a nice dagger screen and was the second option on that play,” Neuqua Valley coach Todd Sutton said. “And Sam is Sam. He always makes those plays. He had a 21-point quarter the last time we played here. I think he likes this gym.” After a 3-point play by Bolingbrook (9-18) cut the Neuqua Valley lead to 38-35 with just under six minutes to play, Sandifer and Johnson came through with each of their 3s to extend the lead to 44-35 and essentially put the game out of reach. “Jabari came down and hit a big three and then I got an open look,” Johnson said. That helped out a lot. From then on, I thought we had a pretty good handle on the game.” Bolingbrook would not go quietly for the better part of three-and-a-half quarters. Neuqua Valley used an 11-0 run during the first and second quarters to go up 19-8. However, the Raiders held the Wildcats to just one field goal in the second quarter, a 3-point basket by Johnson. Bolingbrook trimmed the Neuqua Valley lead to five at halftime and got as close as three in the third quarter. However, the Wildcats would use the 3-pointer to keep their opponent at a distance. After the Raiders’ LaTree Russell’s 3 trimmed the Neuqua Valley lead to 29-26, Ryan McDermott came through with two straight baseline 3s of his own, which eventually led to a 35-30 Wildcat lead heading into the fourth quarter. Johnson’s and Sandifer’s baskets extended the Neuqua Valley advantage, but Bolingbrook’s Dan Fisher hit the last field goal of the night on a 3-pointer, making the score 45-40 with 1:35 to play. That was as close as the Raiders would get. “It’s never easy to lose especially with a group like this,” Bolingbrook coach Rob Brost said. “I’m very proud of our kids and the way they performed tonight.”

  • Montini not taking repeat for granted Feb 12, 2011 6:45 PM
Don’t tell Montini coach Jason Nichols that another state championship is a foregone conclusion. “Tom Brady and the Patriots — nobody was going to beat them three years ago and the Giants did in the Super Bowl,” Nichols said. “It’s basketball. You don’t shoot the ball well, you lack energy and it can end in a moment’s notice.”
