    Blackberry Creek Elementary School students Payton Micka, 8, and Kaily Davison, 10, knew they wanted to help when they heard about the destruction wrought by the EF5 tornado that tore through the Oklahoma City area last week. Their efforts have materialized into boxes of school supplies and clothing for the victims.

    A 49-year-old Elburn woman was killed Thursday morning in a single-vehicle crash in Blackberry Township. Marilyn Gould, of the 2S200 block of Green Road, was killed after her 2001 Chevy Traverse SUV left the east side of Green Road south of Main Street, crossed back over Green and came to rest near a tree. She was not wearing a seat belt, police said.

"People really truly have to realize that if they live on a road that they thinks is deteriorating now," they'll have to wait a long time for fix without the tax increase, highway commissioner Rodney Feece said.

The blaze broke out about 5 p.m. at a home on the 2S200 block of Willow Creek Drive, in a subdivision located south of the intersection of Route 47 and Main Street in Blackberry Township.

    Letter to the Editor: The speed limit on Green Road in Blackberry Township is 50 mph. It should be 45 mph, but the Kane County Department of Transportation does not listen to residents on this. Instead it insists its studies determine what should be the speed limit.
