District 38 ramps up search to find new superintendent Sep 30, 2011 12:00 AM
Big Hollow Elementary District 38 officials are ramping up their search for a new superintendent and plan to present initial findings to the school board in about two weeks. The school board has hired the School Exec Connect educational search firm to assist in finding a new superintendent to replace retiring Ronald Pazanin. Pazanin announced last year he would retire in June 2012.

Big Hollow Elementary District 38 has dropped the asking price for the sale of its vacant Route 12 property. The district had been asking for a $5 million minimum, but will start bidding at $2.8 million in a planned auction, board president Vickie Gallichio said Wednesday.

Born around 1820 into slavery on a plantation in Maryland, Harriet Tubman is a most remarkable American hero. She escaped slavery and later led as many as 300 slaves on harrowing journeys through slave states to reach freedom. When the Civil War broke out in 1860, Tubman worked as a cook, nurse and spy for the Union army. After the war, she established a home for aging African-Americans on her property in Auburn, New York, which is now owned and operated by the African Methodist Episcopal Zion Church and is open to the public for tours.

Big Hollow school demolition begins Jan 13, 2011 12:00 AM
The demolition of two former Big Hollow school buildings finally began Thursday after weeks of delays. Dilapidated walls and ceiling tiles were ripped down by backhoes at Taveirne Middle School at routes 12 and 134 in Fox Lake, Big Hollow Elementary District 38 school board officials said.
