    After losing hundreds of homes to O’Hare International Airport expansion, Bensenville wants to increase its residential tax base. Meanwhile, the White Pines subdivision near the village has an aging water delivery system that needs to be replaced. So Bensenville officials are proposing a deal that they believe could benefit both the village and White Pines’ residents --- although some of the homeowners aren’t so sure.

    Bensenville’s White Pines Golf Dome will reopen Saturday with new ownership for the first time in 20 years. Northbrook-based KemperSports officials on Friday announced their acquisition of the winter dome from longtime owner and operator Mike Munro and said they’ll continue operating the facility through a partnership with Bensenville Park District. The park district owns the White Pines Golf Club and Banquets at 500 W. Jefferson St. and leases land to the dome.

    One hundred-fifty years ago, members of Taylor’s Battery were marching in Georgia, long from their hometown of Chicago, fighting Civil War skirmishes and preparing for a big battle at the Chattahoochee River in Atlanta. On Sunday, re-enactors portraying soldiers in the battery were in Bensenville at Fischer Farm, teaching suburban residents about firing cannons and preparing for a simulated battle.

    Nearly five years after DuPage County became the first county in Illinois to prohibit video gambling machines, some businesses and a park district are asking for the ban to be repealed. “I don't know whether the board members have the interest or the appetite to take this matter up,” county board Chairman Dan Cronin said. “We ultimately would have to repeal an ordinance that they enacted. So it's up to them. I defer to the board members.”
