    The Chicago Slaughter indoor football team has canceled its scheduled 2014 season at the Sears Centre in Hoffman Estates, potentially leaving the door open for a completely new franchise to operate there in 2015. And with the simultaneous resting of the Chicago Rush at the Allstate Arena in Rosemont, this winter is likely to be the first season since 2001 without any arena football in the Chicago-area market, Sears Centre General Manager Ben Gibbs said.

With 14 teams in the mix, AFL officials announced division alignment for the 2014 season on Tuesday. The AFL will feature four divisions within two conferences based on geographic relationships, according to a statement released by the AFL.

    Chicago Rush head coach Bob McMillen is one of the finalists for the 2013 Arena Football Hall of Fame class. The Naperville resident won three AFL championships in 13 seasons in the AFL as a fullback/linebacker. In 2006, he helped the Rush win their first championship and was named the ArenaBowl Ironman of the Game. McMillen is honored by the possibility of becoming a hall of famer, but he's focused on getting his team to the playoffs and beating the Philadelphia Soul this weekend.

While league officials say the season will start as planned on March 23, it remains uncertain if the team will return to Allstate Arena, the Rush’s home in Rosemont for years. “On a scale of 1 to 10, my confidence level is about a 2 or 3,” said Pat Nagle, general manager of Allstate Arena.
