    The trial of an Antioch Township man accused of murdering his ex-girlfriend could begin April 29. Michael Axtell, 41, is charged with three counts of first-degree murder in the October 2012 death of Tammy Stone, 40. Axtell has pleaded not guilty to the charges and is held in Lake County jail on $3 million bond. Lake County Assistant State's Attorney Eric Kalata and defense attorney Katherine Hutch told Judge Victoria Rossetti on Tuesday that both sides are prepared to go to trial.

    Lake County Sheriff investigators say they are looking at speed and weather in trying to determine the cause of a single-vehicle crash that killed two teens in Antioch Township this week. Lake County Chief Deputy Coroner Orlando Portillo said Wednesday autopsies will not be done on Wittkamp and his passenger, Ashley Seay, 17, of Lindenhurst. Authorities said the teens were pronounced dead at the scene.

    Two men were charged with drug offenses last week after Lake Villa police using a search warrant said they found a marijuana-growing operation at their home in Antioch Township. Christopher N. Jansen, 45 and Rusty Meyers II, 20, face charges after police found 10 marijuana plants, 163 grams of marijuana and several items of drug paraphernalia in the home where they live, police said.
