    Supporters of a new tax to pay for ambulance service in the Antioch area have intensified their educational effort as they ask a second time for voter approval. “You're not going to vote `Yes' for a tax increase unless you know what it's for,” said Matt Tabar, a First Fire Protection District commissioner.

    When the Antioch Rescue Squad gave away three used ambulances and other emergency equipment it no longer needed last year, it refused a request to make a donation to the nearby Antioch Fire Department, Antioch fire officials said. Instead, it donated the vehicles and equipment to agencies outside the Antioch and Antioch Township communities that supported the ARS for 75 years.

    A former Antioch-area firefighter pleaded guilty in Lake County court to one count of sexual assaulting a teen he allegedly represented as a modeling manager. Matthew Bielecki, 44, of Antioch Township, was sentenced to 13 years in prison Friday.

    A 67-year-old Antioch Township emergency services volunteer has been arrested for inappropriately touching a female member of the Antioch Rescue Squad, authorities said Friday. Robert Wonderling, of Lake Villa, was charged with misdemeanor battery, authorities said.

    Michael Dawson, 19, of Antioch Township, was sentenced to 18 months periodic imprisonment and 30 months of probation Wednesday by Lake County Judge Victoria Rossetti for his role in a street race that left a 16-year-old Antioch girl dead.
