  • Harvest Christian rolls in 1A sectional Feb 17, 2015 9:57 PM
Hey, this sectional stuff isn’t so hard. Kylee Knox had 16 points, 10 rebounds, and 3 assists, and Paulina Castro added 15 points as Harvest Christian rolled to its first sectional semifinal victory in school history, 57-27, against Alden-Hebron in the Class 1A Harvest Christian sectional Tuesday night in Elgin.

  • Daniel’s putback powers Christian Liberty Jan 16, 2015 11:08 PM
Christian Liberty Academy’s Ben Daniel does not want to be a watchmaker. But he still has an excellent concept of time. Daniel’s putback just before the final horn sounded helped lift the Chargers past Alden-Hebron 44-42 Friday in Arlington Heights in a Northeastern Athletic Conference boys basketball matchup. “At the end of the game, everyone thinks there is less time left than there really is,” said Daniel, a three-year starter for CLA who finished with 10 points. “So I just charged in for the rebound. I saw it come off the rim and I just put it in.”

  • Castro takes over for Harvest Christian Jan 9, 2015 10:53 PM
Paulina Castro has a way of just taking over a game. The Harvest Christian junior guard did just that on Friday night with 29 points, including 16 in the first quarter, to lead the Lions to a 70-39 home win over Alden-Hebron in Northeastern Athletic Conference girls basketball action. It was the Lions’ sixth straight win as they improved to 13-3 overall and remained undefeated at 4-0 in the conference.

  • Harvest Christian turns out the lights on Alden-Hebron Jan 9, 2015 11:15 PM
Early in the second quarter in the boys basketball game between Alden-Hebron and host Harvest Christian Friday night, Lions’ guard Austin White stole the ball at half-court and went the other way for an uncontested layup. Then the lights turned out, stopping play. While the outage was quickly restored it was symbolic of the play of the Lions in the game. Using three separate runs of at least 8-0, Harvest Christian sprinted out to an early lead and never looked back, dumping the Green Giants 67-37 for their first Northeastern Athletic Conference win.

  • St. Edward shoots past Alden-Hebron Nov 26, 2014 10:21 PM
St. Edward boys basketball coach P.J. White is often more vocal than the soft-spoken approach he took Wednesday night. White, who typically can shout with the best of them either on the court or the football field, joked after St. Edward’s 80-54 thumping of Alden-Hebron in Pool A play of the 8th annual Westminster Christian Thanksgiving Classic in Elgin that he was “just saving his voice” for the rest of the season. But when you can barely hear anything from the outspoken White, it can raise some eyebrows.

  • Westminster Christian loses tough one to Hebron Sep 26, 2014 11:59 PM
After upsetting previously unbeaten Hiawatha last weekend, Westminster Christian entered Friday’s game with Alden-Hebron with momentum heavily on its side. In just their second season of football, the 2-2 Warriors were poised to move a win closer to their first playoff berth in front of an overflow homecoming crowd in Elgin. But the Giants spoiled Westminster’s celebration behind one of the most unlikely of heroes. Tight end Trevor Redlin hadn’t practiced or played one snap at running back all season. But when an injury knocked star tailback Josh Johnson out of the game, Redlin slid into the backfield and rushed for 112 yards and a touchdown in the second half to lead Alden-Hebron past Westminster 15-13 in a Northeastern Athletic Conference game.

  • Westminster Christian staying positive Sep 28, 2013 7:54 PM
The first victory in Westminster Christian’s inaugural football season remained elusive Saturday, but the Warriors’ resolve to continue working toward it remained steadfast following a 54-27 loss to Alden-Hebron. “We have homecoming next week and we have to play with pride and represent our school well and get that first win,” said Westminster quarterback Max Tucker, who completed 13 of 24 attempts for 220 yards and 3 touchdowns. “Like I’ve said before, we just want to do our school proud. We just have to keep working hard. I think we’re only a couple of plays away each game from blowing the game open.”

  • Alden-Hebron grounds Christian Liberty Sep 22, 2012 9:37 PM
It's been no secret that Christian Liberty likes to run the football. But after the Chargers exploded for 404 rushing yards against Mooseheart last week, Alden-Hebron coach John Lalor had his players prepared for Christian Liberty's run-oriented attack. Though Christian Liberty did perhaps take the first step to creating a balance between the pass and the run in the fourth quarter, it was too little and too late for the Chargers as they dropped a 29-12 Northeastern Athletic battle with the Giants.
