Arlington Heights seeks artists to design winter-themed banner

The village of Arlington Heights Arts Commission is excited to announce the "The Beauty of the Winter Season" banner program. The program will provide an opportunity for a local artist or a few local artists to display their artwork on banners throughout Arlington Heights.

To be considered for the program, images should feature a winter theme, and must be high resolution files of original artwork such as paintings, drawings, photographs, etc.

Any group, organization or person desiring to have their artwork displayed on an Arlington Heights banner pole in the downtown area must submit a completed application and preliminary art to the Arts Commission by Oct. 1, 2019. If the design is approved, final artwork will be due by Nov. 15, 2019.

Final artwork must be submitted in a high-resolution file such as a JPEG, PNG or TIFF format with at least 300 DPI to be displayed in full size of 25 by 72 inches.

Materials deemed as promoting products, sales, advertising companies or viewed as soliciting will be rejected.

The village manager, at his sole discretion, may deny an applicant for any of the following reasons: The display includes some sort of obscenity or religious association; the artwork does not meet the theme of the program; the artwork is self-promotional; or the village elects to not move forward with the project or decides to pursue other options for banner art.

All artwork will be displayed in the downtown area (Arlington Heights Road and Northwest Highway) for a duration of approximately three months. Banners will be judged by a committee of two arts commissioners and one nonparticipating local artist. Awards will be given for first, second and third place.
