District 214 needs literacy volunteers

The District 214 Read to Learn Adult Literacy/Volunteer Program provides free basic reading classes and individual tutoring for adults in the Northwest suburbs.

Volunteer tutors are trained to work one-on-one with adult learners to improve basic reading skills. Adult learners come from all walks of life and many are nonnative speakers of English.

All participants must be able to communicate with their tutor in English. Trained educators are always on-site to provide lesson plans, materials and assistance.

Classes meet once a week for 2.5 hours during a 10-week semester. Choose morning, afternoon, or evening sessions at one of 12 convenient locations.

Tutor Training will be held from 8:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. Friday Aug 24, or Saturday, Aug. 25. For information, call (847) 718-7724 or register at ce.d214.org/readtolearn.
