100th birthday is celebrated at the Palatine Township Senior Center

The Palatine Township Senior Center prides itself on providing quality programs and services to the seniors of Palatine Township, and providing a variety that will sure to please everyone. For over 40 years, PTSCC has provided education, health, wellness, and social services, in addition to nutrition and recreation for adults 50 and older.

Louise Stein's 100th birthday was recently celebrated by friends and staff at the senior center. Stein has been coming to the center for over 15 years and makes it a priority to come for her activities two times a week.

"I love coming to the center for bingo and to play cards with the girls," said Stein.

Diane Lancour, program director of PTSCC for 14 years said, "Louise was one of my first trip participants and still loves going on the Spirit of Chicago day trip with her daughter-in-law each year. She is sharp, is always smiling and kindhearted, and truly embraces the fellowship here at PTSCC. She is an excellent example of the benefit of the social interaction and fun that is had at the center."

Bingo and cards are two of the many recreational activities that are offered at the center. Ceramics, quilting, a variety of exercise classes, hah jongg, poker, and other activities happen weekly at the center. Clubs such as the Hiking Club, Book Club, and Golf Leagues are very well attended. Day trips are offered to places such as theater productions, ballgames, and boat tours in Chicago, as well as overnight trips to places such as New Orleans and the Smokey Mountains. Meals are offered on Mondays, Wednesdays and Thursdays, and monthly themed luncheons are always a hit.

Social services offered to seniors include Medicare options counseling, Latino and Russian outreach, benefits eligibility screening and assistance, Senior Health Insurance Program, the center's Adult Day Program and much more.

The center also offers Open Computer Lab hours, a gift shop, Traveling Noon Lunch once a month, free hearing screenings and blood pressure readings monthly, and more.

Whether you're 50, 100, or any age in between, there is sure to be something here to enjoy.
