'Miss Firecracker' takes stage in Glen Ellyn

The Glen Ellyn Village Theatre Guild's production of "The Miss Firecracker Contest," Beth Henley's rich, southern-gothic, absurdist comedy about a small-town girl trying desperately to salvage her reputation by winning a pageant, will take center stage March 23 through April 14.

Performances are set for 8 p.m. Fridays and Saturdays with 3 p.m. matinees on March 25 and 31 and April 8 and 14 at the theater near the northwest corner of Butterfield Road and Park Boulevard in Glen Ellyn.

Tickets are $18 and available by calling (630) 469-8230 or by going online at www.villagetheatreguild.org.

Originally staged during VTG's 25th anniversary season, "Miss Firecracker" returns exactly 30 years later.

Director Sue Keenan of Glen Ellyn said 11 members from the original production staff are working behind the scenes of the show. Keenan is a founding member of Village Theatre Guild and this is her 18th time directing in 55 years.

The production stars Tina Vorreyer of Darien as Carnelle Scott; Hadley Hill of Lombard as Popeye Jackson; Heidi Schultz of Aurora as Elain Rutledge; Ben Slabik of Lombard as Delmount Williams; Tony Lage of West Chicago as Mac Sam; and ShaVon Sokan of Glendale Heights as Tessy Mahoney. Kevin Taylor of Orland Park is producer and Lisa Dolnics of Naperville is stage manager.
