Schaumburg Park District receives Shared Service Award

Schaumburg Park District recently was honored with a Shared Service Award for the District's KASPER program.

The award, presented Friday, Dec. 15, by Lieutenant Governor Evelyn Sanguinetti, recognizes local units of government that work cooperatively to deliver effective and efficient services to the community. KASPER is the result of an intergovernmental agreement between the Schaumburg Park District and Community Consolidated School District 54.

For more than 30 years, the KASPER program has provided a vital service to children and families in the community through before and after school care. With more than 900 children and 11 sites, the program ensures youngsters have a safe place to go in the mornings and afternoons while their parents are at work. KASPER offers an essential bridge between school and home, providing recreational experiences, active play and homework guidance by highly-trained, dedicated staff.

"Intergovernmental partnerships like this one showcase the tremendous benefit of having distinct units of government that are able to offer unique services to our constituents in an efficient manner," said Tony LaFrenere, executive director of Schaumburg Park District.

Five other local governments were honored at the event which was held at the Robert O. Atcher Municipal Center.
