Say goodbye to 2017 on a nighttime nature hike

Start off the last weekend of 2017 with a snowshoe hike around scenic Spring Valley.

The End of the Year Night Hike is set for 6-8 p.m. Dec. 29 at Spring Valley Nature Center, 1111 E. Schaumburg Road.

The hike will begin at the Nature Center and end at Merkle Cabin, where hot chocolate will be served and participants are invited to share their New Year's resolutions.

If there is no snow on the ground, participants will enjoy a hike on foot.

"This is a great way for people to enjoy nature at night," said Kyle Wenz, environmental education assistant. "Not a lot of people get to experience Spring Valley in the stillness of the night since the trails close at dusk."

The hike is for ages 2 and older. Cost is $10 for residents and $15 for nonresidents.
