Program introduces families to nature's magic
Visitors can spend an enchanted evening meeting live owls, snakes and other creatures next month during the Forest Preserve District of DuPage County's "Wizards, Wands and Wildlife" program.
The event takes place from 3 to 6 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 7, at Mayslake Peabody Estate, 1717 W. 31st St., Oak Brook.
Witch and wizard families will be sorted into houses and outfitted with a wand before attending magical courses where they will learn about owls and other creatures, the powers of plants, and the defensive strategies of wildlife.
Participants are invited to transform for the evening by dressing in their favorite magical attire. The program costs $15 per person and is for ages 7 and older; those younger than 18 must be accompanied by adults. Register online at dupageforest.org or at (630) 942-6200.
Participants will be welcomed in the great hall where they will make their wands, and then families will be sorted into one of four houses to attend their classes.
"This program will be a fun way for families that enjoy the genre to learn about nature's magic," said Forest Preserve District of DuPage County President Joe Cantore.
"This event provides an opportunity for families to discover the magical wonders of nature right in your own backyard," said Forest Preserve District Commissioner Jeff Redick, District 2.
