Aurora World War II vets saluted at university ceremony

Local World War II veterans were saluted in an early Veterans Day ceremony at Aurora University Nov. 10.

Aurora residents honored were Jack Roderick, U.S. Navy; Don Thompson, U.S. Navy; and Wilbur Ericson U.S. Coast Guard; Ray Moore, U.S. Army Air Corps; Norman Rebenstrorf, U.S. Navy; and Richard Miller, U.S. Navy.

The Aurora University Veterans Association and Social Work Association, student groups, co-sponsored the second annual ceremony in the university banquet hall.

The Aurora University chorale, directed by Lisa Fredenburgh, music department chair, opened the ceremony by leading the audience in the national anthem.

John Birkey, president of Aurora University Veterans Association, reflected on events of World War II.

Aurora University chaplain Mark Woolfington offered a benediction to close the ceremony.
