Classical Latin music in Naperville concert

Classical music from Mexico, Brazil and Argentina will be featured this weekend when Chamber Musicians for Change performs in the First at Two concert series in Naperville.

The free concert will begin at 2 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 22, at the First Congregational United Church of Christ, 25 E. Benton Ave.

A freewill offering will benefit Alive, Naperville's teen center, whose mission is to empower today's youth to become impassioned, resilient leaders of tomorrow.

"The concert will be a celebration of the Latin contribution to classical music as it blends classical forms with the rhythms, melodies and romantic sensuality only Latin music can provide," said First at Two creator Christopher Lorimer.

"Chamber Musicians for Change will be performing works by some of the greats like Piazolla, Villa-Lobos and Ponce, so it's going to be a rich and lively concert."

Chamber Musicians for Change formed earlier this year and includes instrumentalists and vocalists, many of whom are teachers at area universities and music schools, and performers in local symphonies and bands.

The ensemble's name comes from its desire to use music and recitals as a vehicle to promote social change and educate audiences about local charities and organizations in need.

"We are simply a group of friends who love playing good music together and are passionate about social justice issues," group leader Jill Burlingame said.
