Palatine Township Senior Center to host Fall Festival

September was Senior Center month, and this year's theme was "Senior Centers: Masters of Aging."

The Palatine Township Senior Center joined centers across the country to celebrate the many ways senior centers lead their communities and inspire individuals to master this phase of life.

Come enjoy the continuing celebration of seniors at the Palatine Township Senior Center at the Fall Festival from 9:30 -11 a.m. Monday, Oct. 16, at 505 S. Quentin Road, in Palatine. Enjoy free doughnuts and cider, screenings, demonstrations and activities.

Visit the exhibitor tables with more than 20 free raffles. Experience a fall prevention screening. Enjoy free demonstrations of the activities offered at Palatine Township Senior Center such as Chair Yoga, Sit & Be Fit, Tai Chi, Wii Sports, Bags, and ceramics.

Learn about the new way to relax through the use of coloring books. See what other quality programs and services are offered and visit many of the center's supporters, offering expertise ranging from senior living facilities, in-home health care, medical providers, insurance, financial, realty assistance and more.

The Palatine Township Senior Citizens Council Social Services department will be offering free senior entitlement screenings and Medicare information. Raffle drawings will be at 11:15 a.m.

Register in advance for lunch by Thursday, Oct. 12, at (847) 991-1112, ext. 227. Lunch will be served at 11:45 a.m. at "Our Place Cafe" for a $5 donation (for those 60 and older; up to the first 70 people registered) sponsored, in part, by Arboria of Long Grove.

The Palatine Township Senior Citizens Council provides programs and services that support older adults and their families by encouraging independence, well-being and connection to the community.

The Recreation, Education, Health and Wellness, Noon Dining, Home Delivered Meals, Adult Day Care and Social Services programs are available to persons 50 and older and their families who live in Palatine Township and the surrounding communities in the North and Northwest suburbs.

Services are available in English, Spanish and Russian at six satellite locations. The Social Services staff also makes home visits as needed.
