Painting and Wine Night at museum cancelled

Editor's note: This event has been cancelled.

As “1917: Catalyst for the Modern Era” becomes the latest exhibit at the DuPage County Historical Museum, the aircraft of that year will be the inspiration behind its Painting and Wine Night.

The event will be at 6:30 p.m. Friday, Oct. 6, in the museum auditorium, 102 E. Wesley St., Wheaton.

Guests will be treated to light snacks and wine and given the chance to test their own artistic ability. The museum first sponsored a similar event in 2016 in conjunction with its “Wedding Traditions Unveiled” exhibit.

“The museum is always looking for ways to reach into the community,” said Ashley Downing, the museum's curator. “This is a little less traditional for a museum event, but one that our guests loved last time the program was offered, and one that we are hoping is a success this time around.”

Local artist Rick Napier will be the instructor for the evening as guests can create their own 1917-themed masterpiece of biplanes at sunset. Napier has a bachelor's and master's degrees in painting and has been featured in a variety of art shows in the Chicago area for nearly 10 years. He has also spent time as an art conservator.

The cost is $35 and all painting materials will be provided.

“1917: Catalyst for the Modern Era” will be on display through July 30, 2018.
