Glenbard hosts picnic for Hispanic parents

The Glenbard Parent Series/Spanish will host a back-to-school picnic at 6 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 23, in the cafeteria at Glenbard East High School, 1014 S. Main St., Lombard.

Julian Lazalde of the Latino Policy Forum will present a program in Spanish titled "Navigating the Educational System." Participants will learn about postsecondary options, how to access resources, and how to effectively partner with educators for their teens' success.

After the picnic, Pulitzer Prize-winning author Sonia Nazario will be at Glenbard East to speak to the public in English about her best-selling book, "Enrique's Journey."

The book, available in English and Spanish, chronicles a Honduran child's search for his mother and a family's desperate struggles to unite. Nazario's presentation will begin at 7 p.m.
