Hanover Township backpack distribution set for Aug. 9

Hanover Township, in cooperation with State Representative Fred Crespo and Cook County Commissioner Timothy O. Schneider, will host their annual Backpack Distribution Wednesday, Aug. 9, at the Astor Avenue Community Center, 7431 Astor Ave., in Hanover Park.

Beginning at 9 a.m., township youth in grades K through eighth can receive a free backpack filled with school supplies, while supplies last. Proof of Hanover Township residency is required, with a limit of one backpack per child.

Last year, more than 1,200 backpacks with school supplies were handed out to township youth.

"Every child deserves to start the school year on the right foot, beginning with having a backpack and the supplies needed to complete assignments," said Brian P. McGuire, Hanover Township supervisor.

"Once again we are overwhelmed by the tremendous outpouring of donations from our sponsors, residents and community organizations for this great event."
