Acclaimed artist exhibits sculptures at Fremont library

"Some artists paint with their hearts, others sketch with their souls, and Joseph A. Burlini sculpts with his humanity," says Bruce Pecho, Chicago art critic.

Burlini, who "builds his dreams," is exhibiting his bronze, kinetic, steel and plexiglass sculptures and portraits, through Saturday, Oct. 7, at Fremont Public Library, 1170 N. Midlothian Road, Mundelein.

A full-time sculptor, Burlini has achieved national recognition for his sculptures of welded steel, bronze, gold, aluminum, plexiglass, stainless and wood. Burlini has been honored for his work, including being named Studs Terkel Illinois Arts Council Humanitarian of the Year.

Burlini, who lives in Arlington Heights, blends art, soul and humanity, the bulwark of his career that has spanned more than 50 years. His permanent sculptures are featured at The Pentagon in Washington D.C.; Chicago Botanic Garden in Glencoe; and at the former Standard Oil Building, now Aon Center, in Chicago. He creates large outdoor pieces, some as tall as 70 feet. One of his large sculptures is at the entrance of the Wellness Center of Northwest Community Hospital in Arlington Heights.

The Northwest Cultural Council, co-sponsoring Burlini's library exhibit, serves the Northwest corridor. A nonprofit organization, it supports and promotes the work of area visual artists and poets, offering a variety of programs including corporate gallery exhibitions, co-sponsored by businesses, convention and visitors' bureaus, libraries and hospitals. It also offers art competitions, and poetry workshops and readings.
