Jumping dogs invade Libertyville

Libertyville's ninth annual Dog Days of Summer is planned for 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Friday through Sunday, July 7-9, in Cook Park.

Libertyville will be the host city for the DockDogs National Dog Jumping Competition, where guests can watch as more than 100 nationally-ranked dogs run down a 40-foot dock and jump into a 27,000-gallon pool of water, vying for the longest distance or the highest vertical jump.

In addition to the three-day, nonstop dog jumping competition, dog-oriented events and more than 30 vendors will be in Cook Park throughout the weekend. At noon Saturday, July 8, join in singing the national anthem and take part in a Gratitude Ceremony honoring service personnel.

Also, see the Lake County Sheriff Department's police dog demonstration, take part in the Doggie Parade, try Doggie Yoga, catch the action with Frisbee dogs, attend St. Lawrence Church's multifaith pet blessing ceremony at 11 a.m. Sunday and more.

Dog Days of Summer is presented by the village of Libertyville, produced by Bill Kaiser, and sponsored by GreenTree Animal Hospital, First Bank & Trust, Petranek's Pharmacy, Veterinary Specialty Center, The Honest Kitchen, and Pampered Pup'z.
