See history come to life at Spring Valley Country Fair

Take a trip back in time to the late 19th century during Schaumburg Park District's Spring Valley Country Fair, sponsored by Davey Tree. The two-day fair is set for noon to 4 p.m., Saturday, June 10 and Sunday, June 11, at Volkening Heritage Farm, 201 S. Plum Grove Road, in Schaumburg.

Activities include a bake sale, livestock and domestic arts displays and 1880s farm equipment demonstrations. Attendees may join the fun by participating in a variety of historic games and activities. A historic interpreter will portray a medicine man peddling his latest elixirs.

"Country Fairs were a fun experience in the 19th century," said Patricia Kennedy, farm program coordinator. "Visitors will see interpreters showing animals, baked goods and farm equipment in competition for blue ribbons - the quintessential prize for the best of the fair."

Admission is $4 per person, $16 per family and free for children 3 and younger.
