FanCon Comics and Pop Culture event returns to Arlington Heights library

FanCon, Arlington Heights' premiere comics and pop culture event, returns to the Arlington Heights Memorial Library on Saturday, July 29, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Geeks, nerds and fans of all ages are invited to drop in and celebrate all things comics and pop culture at this free, library-wide event. Meet artists and other pop culture enthusiasts and stretch your creativity in hands-on workshops. Highlights include:

• John Robert Matz, a Chicago-based performer, arranger, composer and music educator best known for his work on video game scores as diverse as the BAFTA-nominated Gunpoint, Artemis: the Spaceship Bridge Simulator, Rodina, and Fossil Echo, which recently earned Best Interactive Score at the 2017 Game Audio Network Guild Awards.

• The 501st Midwest Garrison, back by popular demand! Snag photos with this always-entertaining troupe of costumed Star Wars characters including Stormtroopers.

• Gaming - a Tetris Tournament and tabletop gaming in the Hendrickson Room

• Artists' Alley featuring 12 of Chicago's most talented artists, illustrators and animators of comics, cartoons and other pop culture magic.

• Food trucks including Cheesie's Pub & Grub and Courageous Bakery. Recharge and purchase a delicious treat.

• Costumes encouraged! Come dressed as your favorite character.
