District 212 student board of education members recipients of Award of Merit

East Leyden senior Vanessa Gallegos and West Leyden senior Noelle Lowther have been recognized as Award of Merit recipients in the 2017 Distinguished Service Awards Program sponsored by the Illinois Chapter of the National School Public Relations Association (INSPRA). The young women were nominated in the student category by District 212 Superintendent Nick Polyak.

The statewide Distinguished Service Awards program honors those who have consistently extended themselves on behalf of their school and worked to underscore the importance of education to the community.

"Both Vanessa and Noelle were selected to represent the student body on the School Board because of their school involvement and strong character," recalls Superintendent Polyak. "They were not afraid to speak up and add student voice to the decision making process of the board. They also provided input and raised issues of importance to themselves and their classmates."

The graduating seniors were recognized at INSPRA's awards luncheon on Friday, May 5, at the Bolingbrook Golf Club, located in Bolingbrook.
