PM&L Theatre presents 'To Kill a Mockingbird'

Submitted by PM&L Theatre

"To Kill a Mockingbird," adapted by Christopher Sergel from the Pulitzer Prize-winning book by Harper Lee, is now showing at PM&L Theatre, 877 Main St., Antioch. The play will run Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays for three weekends, closing on June 4.

The play is directed by Donna Abear of Antioch, whose recent PM&L directing credits include "The Boys Next Door" and "The Rocky Horror Show."

The unforgettable characters and events from Harper Lee's beloved classic novel come to vibrant life in this powerful and moving production. The Finch children - Scout, played by Raina Thiegs of Crystal Lake and Jem, played by Matthew Savas of Crystal Lake, along with their friend, Dill, Toby Jaros of Lake Villa, discover compassion for their mysterious and misunderstood neighbor Boo Radley, Matthew Craig of Antioch.

At the same time, their idyllic childhood is shattered by prejudice, bigotry and violence when their widowed father Atticus Finch, portrayed by Jim Olson of Pleasant Prairie, Wisconsin, a lawyer of courage and integrity, is asked to defend a young black man, Tom Robinson, Brad Johnson of Gurnee, falsely accused of raping a white woman in Depression-era Alabama. This timeless story, told through the eyes of a child, presents both social injustice and compassionate heroism in situations that resonate today.

"To Kill a Mockingbird" will run at 8 p.m. Fridays and Saturdays and 2:30 p.m. Sundays through June 4. Tickets are available online at www.pmltheatre.com, and are $15 for adults and $13 for seniors and students. To reserve tickets, call PM&L box office (847) 395-3055. The box office is open from 6-8 p.m. Monday through Thursday, 9 a.m. to noon Saturdays and 1½ hours before curtain on show dates.
