Two children's authors to visit Glen Ellyn Library

Two popular children's writers - "Goodnight, Goodnight Construction Site" author Sherri Duskey Rinker and "Some Kind of Courage" author Dan Gemeinhart - will visit the Glen Ellyn Public Library during the next two Saturdays.

Middle school author Gemeinhart will speak about his passion for writing, as well as about his books, including his newest book, "Scar Island," at 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. Saturday, April 29, at the library, 400 Duane St., Glen Ellyn. A question-and-answer session will follow.

Middle schoolers can reserve a spot for either the 10 a.m. or the 2 p.m. session by calling the Youth Department at (630) 790-6620 or visiting gepl.org/events/meet-the-authors. Parents are also welcome to register for the event.

"In a field overrun by trilogies, Dan Gemeinhart's stand-alone novels are refreshing," said Christina Keasler, middle school librarian. "He writes books that engage middle schoolers."

Last year Gemeinhart's first novel, "The Honest Truth," won the Glen Crest Middle School Battle of the Books competition.

Middle schoolers can bring their favorite Gemeinhart book to be autographed after the discussion. A representative from The Bookstore in Glen Ellyn will have copies of "Scar Island" for sale at the library.

The following week, Duskey Rinker will talk about her books, including her new books "Silly Wonderful You" and "Mighty Construction Site" at 10 a.m. Saturday, May 6. She will discuss her writing process and where she looks for new ideas for stories. Rinker also will take questions from the audience.

Reserve a spot by calling the Youth Department at (630) 790-6620 or visiting gepl.org/events/meet-the-authors. Kids of all ages can attend.

"Kids love her books because she writes about transportation," said Melissa Hilt, Youth Department assistant director. "Her books have a fun rhythm to them, composed of simple text with appealing illustrations."
