Fire acquire forward Herbers in trade

The Chicago Fire added its first player of the off-season, trading for forward Fabian Herbers. The Fire sent a second-round 2019 MLS SuperDraft pick to Philadelphia.

The 25-year-old forward is under contract for 2019 with a club option for 2020. He has a U.S. green card, so the native of Germany will not count as an international player on the Fire roster.

In three seasons in Philadelphia, he scored 4 goals and assisted on 9 more in 53 regular-season appearances. He started 22 games.

The 2019 MLS SuperDraft will be held Jan. 11 at McCormick Place in Chicago.
