Ron Uchman, a Chicago native, has been one of the country's top public handicappers for the last several years. In the past he has enjoyed stints at several publications, including the Daily Racing Form, The Green Sheet, The Minneapolis Star and Tribune, the Chicago Sun Times and, of course, The Daily Herald. He has, as well, worked for a number of "tip sheets" and was one of the original handicappers for Great Britain's "At The Races" betting network. Currently he writes comments and does selections for the Chicago Metro area's thoroughbred racetracks. He has worked for Hawthorne Race Course for 20 years, providing selections for both Thoroughbred and Standardbred races, along with occasional "gigs" at Arlington Park.

"I have been involved in racing since a very young age. My family owned Thoroughbreds, none ever came close to winning, but was forced to find new homes for them when my brother developed a severe allergic reaction to them. But, it was enough to ensure that I caught the "bug".

"I always had a knack for picking winners and see no reason why that won't continue. I'm looking forward to having a great spring meet at Hawthorne and beyond. It is my hope that proposed legislation across many fronts will help to propel Illinois racing back to the star status that it enjoyed in the past (I think we're getting close). Good luck and good handicapping."
