NIU and Miami football teams to play for Mallory Cup

The late Bill Mallory, who won Mid-American Conference titles with both Northern Illinois and Miami University, will be honored as the two schools have agreed to play for a trophy, the Mallory Cup, when they meet in football.

The two MAC schools will play at Huskie Stadium on Nov. 14.

"Bill Mallory was a special coach and a great man who left a lasting legacy in the Mid-American Conference and certainly at NIU and Miami," said Sean T. Frazier, NIU associate vice-president and director of athletics. "The Mallory Cup honors a man whose impact on both programs should and will be remembered each time our teams meet on the football field."

Mallory died May 25, 2018. He led NIU to its first Mid-American Conference title in 1983. He also coached at Colorado (1974-78) and Indiana (1984-96), and Miami 1969-73.
