Duran shines in Cougars 6-3 win

Beloit, Wisconsin - The Kane County Cougars defeated the Beloit Snappers, 6-3, in game three of a five-game series on Wednesday night at Pohlman Field.

The Cougars (27-23) broke a scoreless tie in the fifth inning. The Cougars loaded the bases with no one out, but back-to-back force outs at home brought Gabriel Maciel to the plate with two down. Maciel laced an RBI single to give the Cougars 1 -0 advantage. The Snappers bounced back in the bottom of the fifth inning to tie the game at one run apiece.

The Cougars pieced together another two-out rally in the sixth inning. With the bases loaded, Joey Rose belted a two-run double to push the Cougars back in front. The next batter, Jancarlos Cintron, singled in a run. Gabriel Maciel also chipped in an RBI single, giving the Cougars a 5-1 cushion.

The Snappers received an RBI single from Jack Meggs to cut the Cougars advantage to 5-2. In the seventh, Ernie De La Trinidad singled in another Cougar run, but the Snappers responded with a run in the bottom of the frame to make it 6-3.

Cougar starter Jhoan Duran (2-0) earned the win, tossing five innings of one-run ball, scattering four hits with six strikeouts and no walks. Breckin Williams provided two innings of relief, surrendering two runs on three hits. Carlos Bustamante (2) earned the two-inning save, with two shutout frames.

Jared Poche (1-4) took the loss for Beloit. The lefty allowed two runs on four hits over 5.1 innings. Adam Reuss yielded four runs on five hits over 2.2 innings. Josh Reagan worked around a hit to toss a scoreless ninth inning.

The Cougars' continue the eight-game road trip with game four and five of a five game set at Pohlman Field Thursday night. First pitch is scheduled for 5 p.m. Follow the action live on AM 1280 WBIG or on kccougars.com
