Softball: Grayslake North wins at Palatine

Freshman Jessica Pozezinski lifted a sacrifice fly in the bottom of the seventh inning, giving Grayslake North's softball team a 3-2 win over Zion-Benton in the Class 4A Palatine regional semifinals on Thursday.

It was the Knights' third walk-off win in their last four games.

No. 7 Grayslake North (19-8) advances to Saturday's 11 a.m. final against No. 2 Palatine (25-5).

Scout Kram (1-for-1, walk, sacrifice bunt) scored the tying run on Grace Brown's hard-hit single down the left-field line after leading the inning off with a sharp single up the middle. Brown (2-for-4) advanced to second on the throw home. Faith Standerski advanced Brown to third on a hard-hit single, and Brown scored the winning run on Pozezinski's flyball.

Standerski drove in the first run of the game for Grayslake North in the fifth inning on a fielder's choice. Alyssa Carr was 2-for-3 for the Knights, and Nina Wittig added a double. Winning pitcher Emily Mack was dominant in relief, throwing 6⅔ innings. She gave up 2 hits to go along with 11 strikeouts and 2 walks.

No. 10 Zion-Benton got 2 hits and an RBI from Alexa Clauss and a double from Alyssa Ranchero.
