Baseball: Barrington comes back, clips Crystal Lake South

Mid-Suburban West baseball champ Barrington battled past Class 4A regional host Crystal Lake South 8-7 on Wednesday to earn a spot in Saturday's regional final.

The Gators had plenty of success early, scoring 7 runs over the first 2 innings. Only 1 of the runs Barrington allowed was earned.

The Broncos reclaimed the lead with consecutive rallies in the third (2 runs), fourth (4 runs) and fifth (2 runs).

R.J. Nowicki got the victory after 4 relief innings, and Brad Coble and Nate Holler (save) both pitched 1 scoreless out of the bullpen.

Tyler Acosta went 3-for-4 with a double and 3 RBI to lead Barrington's comeback. David Mitchell (2 hits) and Jake Meyer both drove in 2 runs, while leadoff man Johnny Gagne scored three times and Jake Horcher twice.

Barrington (21-7-2) is the top seed in its sub-sectional of the McHenry complex. The Broncos next face the winner of Thursday's contest between No. 4 Jacobs and No. 6 Crystal Lake Central in an 11 a.m. Saturday regional final at Crystal Lake South.

Wheaton North 7, Conant 1: Jackson Gray's sharp pitching effort ended Conant's postseason in regional semifinal action at Willowbrook.

Gray allowed 5 hits in a complete-game triumph which sends the Falcons in a Saturday regional final against the winner of Thursday's game between No. 6 Willowbrook and No. 11 Addison Trail.

Senior Matt Majer accounted for 3 of his team hits, and two of them were doubles.

Fourteenth seed Conant (16-14-1) also got hits from Mason Sykes and Tyler Hedman.

Joe Klein and Tyler Woltman both doubled twice for the No. 3 seeded Falcons (23-11).

Mundelein 4, Rolling Meadows 1: TJ Yakimisky doubled and drove in 3 runs to help regional host Mundelein prevail in a battle of Mustangs.

Brandon Janowicz drove in Jacob Johnson-Wright with the only run for 18th-seeded Rolling Meadows (10-16-1) in the first inning.

Mundelein starter Jonathan Hanscom allowed 6 hits and a walk but struck out 10 over 6 innings. Ryan Patel worked a hitless seventh to pick up a save.

Second-seeded Mundelein (23-8) advances to an 11 a.m regional final against the winner of Thursday's matchup between Prospect and St. Viator at Mundelein.
