Softball: Batavia upsets WWS; Huntley sets school record for wins

Senior Sammi Wicks allowed just 3 hits in a complete game effort Tuesday as No. 11 seed Batavia upset No. 5 Wheaton Warrenville South 3-0 in the semifinals of the Class 4A Oswego East softball regional.

The Bulldogs advance to Saturday's championship game against the winner of Wednesday's semifinal between Oswego East and Waubonsie Valley.

Batavia scored all of its runs in the top of the sixth inning as Molly Costigan had a 2-run single.

Jaelen Lisberg added a double for the Bulldogs.

Huntley 15, Rockford Auburn 0: The Red Raiders set a school record for wins and advanced to the championship game of the Class 4A Hononegah regional. Tiffany Giese moved to 22-2 on the season in the circle, going 4 innings and allowing 3 hits with 2 strikeouts and no walks. Taylor Pacana led the offense with a grand slam home run for the Red Raiders (30-5) while Sofia Tenuta had a 2-run homer and Kendra Mitchell added 2 hits. Huntley will play on Saturday against the winner of Wednesday's game between Hononegah and DeKalb.

St. Charles North 18, Streamwood 1: Grace Quinn had 3 hits with a grand slam homer, a double and 7 RBI and Sydney Eby added 3 hits with a grand slam and 5 RBI as the North Stars (12-9) rolled in their postseason opener. SCN will play Saturday for the regional title against the winner of Wednesday's semifinal between Conant and Addison Trail. In Tuesday's win, Jillian Waslawski threw 3 innings and allowed 2 hits with 4 strikeouts and no walks for the Stars. Adding to the offense were Anastasia Pappas (2 hits, RBI), Alyssa Eby (2 hits, RBI), Ashlyn Jozefowicz (3 hits, 2B, 2 RBI) and Grace Sobieski (2 hits, 2B). Tessa Freedman had a double and an RBI for Streamwood (8-19).

Cary-Grove 6, CL Central 1: Jazz Flashing and Nicollette Richardi (2B) each had 2 RBI to lead the Trojans (15-12) in the opening round of the Class 4A Jacobs regional. Kelly Johnson added 2 hits for Cary-Grove while Emma Hill allowed just 6 hits with a strikeout and a walk to earn the win. C-G will play Barrington Wednesday in the semifinals.

Rosary 15, IMSA 0: Mikayla Cassidy had 2 hits including a grand slam home run and 6 RBI for the Royals (8-6-1) in their opening round win of their own Class 3A regional. Also contributing for Rosary were Chloe Saltijeral (2 hits), Kaleigh Lentz (3 RBI), Xandria Olsen (3B) and Brooke Cappararelli (2 RB), who was also the winning pitcher, allowing 2 hits with 5 strikeouts.

Marian Central 10, St. Edward 0: Sarah Mendoza had a double for St. Edward (11-17), which had its season ended in the opening round of the Class 3A Burlington Central regional. Marian Central will play Marengo at 3:30 p.m. Wednesday, followed by Burlington Central vs. Woodstock North. The championship game has been moved to Friday at 4:30 p.m.
