Baseball: Fields doesn't yield as Libertyville wins again
Colin Fields fired a 1-hitter, and Libertyville's baseball team shut out Lake Zurich for the second day in a row, winning 6-0 in North Suburban Conference action.
Libertyville, which took a 2-game lead over Mundelein for first place in the NSC, both Tim Jean and Luke Plunkett (double, 3 RBI) were 2-for-3.
Lake Forest 6, Mundelein 4: The visiting Scouts scored 3 runs in the fifth inning to take a 5-3 lead and beat the Mustangs for the second day in a row in North Suburban action.
Steven Sanchez was 2-for-4 for Mundelein, and Mason Schaller had a single and 2 RBI.
Stevenson 6, Waukegan 1: Nick Bonk finished 2-for-3 with a double, and the host Patriots won the North Suburban game.
Caleb Evans singled and drove in 2 runs for Stevenson (15-11-1, 10-7).
Warren 10, Zion-Benton 2: Danny Ahn was 3-for-4 with 2 doubles for the host Blue Devils in their North Suburban win.
Warren also got 2 hits apiece from Mikey Kocen, Sam Deluca and Riley Kocen (double, 3 RBI). Kyle Kenna had a single and 2 RBI.
Jacob Nitch allowed just 1 earned run in a complete-game effort. He struck out nine, walked two and allowed 5 hits.
Carmel 10, Marian Central 0: Charley Dir went 3-for-4 with a homer and 2 RBI, Lukas Galdoni was 3-for-3 with a double and 2 RBI, and the host Corsairs won the East Suburban Catholic game in five innings.
Ben Wiegman had a triple for Carmel (14-8, 8-5). Ethan Elazegui allowed 1 hit in 4 innings to earn the win.
Wauconda 9, Grant 3: Dan Sperling was 2-for-4, Jake Harmon did not allow an earned run in 5⅔ innings, and the visiting Bulldogs captured the Northern Lake County game.
Sperling, Anthony Bonk and Brett Winkel all doubled for Wauconda.
For Grant (17-7, 8-5), Nolan Unger was 2-for-3 with a double and 2 RBI.
