Prospect's softball team retained its half-game lead over Hersey in the Mid-Suburban East by blanking host Buffalo Grove 5-0 on Monday.

Sophomore pitcher Claire Doherty raised her record to 10-4 with a 3-hitter as the Knights improved to 17-6 and 9-4 in the East. Hersey stands at 15-5 and 8-4.

Seniors Lauen Caldrone homered and Alyssa Cacini doubled for the Knights. Classmate Alex Kanter added 2 RBI for the winners while Megan Fontanetta had 2 doubles for BG (5-14, 3-10) which received a 5-hitter from Kylie Mainville.

Jacobsen's 2 homers give her 8 for the season - and she barely missed a third when her walk-off single in the bottom of the fifth inning hit near the top of the fence.

Junior Tori Meyer threw a 2-hitter with 8 strikeouts and 1 walks to raise her record to 9-1.

Mary Bean homered for the Hawks (4-14-1, 3-10)

Conant 10, Schaumburg 4: Paige Nallen (2-for-4, RBI) and Hannah Oh (2-for-3, 2 RBI) led the offense for visiting Conant (12-7, 8-4).

St. Viator 8, Benet 0: The host Lions (2-22, 1-10) earned their first win in the East Suburban Catholic as senior co-captain Jessica Taylor threw out the first pitch. The senior hasn't been able to play in a month due to an injury.

"l think that really gave the girls a big boost," said Lions coach John Scotillo. "That energy stayed with the girls the entire game."

Haley Robinson (3 hits) had a triple and double for the Lions while sophomore Nicole Ardito doubled.

The Lions escaped a first inning threat when center fielder Maggie VanValkenburg raced in to snare a low liner and then doubled the runner off second base.

St. Viator scored first when Robinson tripled and came home on a wild pitch.

The Lions broke the game open with a 4- run fourth inning.

Freshman winning pitcher Gianna Saverino started the inning with a single followed by a walk to VanValkenburg.

Robinson and Ardito (3 RBI) then belted back-to-back doubles.

An error led to the fourth run.

Cece Kaiser drove in the final run in the sixth inning.

Saverino retired 15 of the last 17 batters for the shutout.

Ardito turned in two defensive gems and 2 hits with 3 RBI.

"Although we will miss our seniors, our future is bright," Scotillo said.
