Softball: Armstrong powers Jacobs to doubleheader split
Katie Armstrong hit 2 home runs and drove in 5 runs, leading Jacobs to a 9-7 win over Harlem Saturday in the first game of a doubleheader.
Harlem won the nightcap 8-5. Kerri Healy went 4-for-4 with 2 doubles, 2 runs and 2 RBI. Delaney Garden was 3-for-4.
Healy also had 3 hits in the first game, giving her a 7-for-8 day. Jess Mrzlak went 3-for-4 with 2 runs.
Armstrong pitched the first 4 innings for the win, allowing 5 runs. Garden pitched the final 3 giving up a pair of unearned runs to get the save for Jacobs (10-8-1).
South Elgin splits: After losing 11-1 to Lake Park, the Storm (11-10) bounced back with a 9-8 win. Leadoff hitter Casey Brennan was 4-for-5 with 3 RBI. Julianna Battaglia and Sami Koss both went 2-for-4, and Koss drove in a pair of runs.
Geneva Pollman pitched all 7 innings allowing 9 hits and 4 earned runs, walking 3.
CL South 12, Prairie Ridge 2: The Gators (15-3) broke the game open with a 10-run third inning. Maddie Bush provided the big blow with a grand slam. She had 2 hits and 5 RBI.
Christina Toniolo - who earned the win, going 5 innings with 6 strikeouts - also had 2 hits.
